The essay as poem: meditation

Fundamental element of essay is persuasion whereas in poem it is meditation which is very important for comprehension. In meditative essay, the readers are not directly addressed rather the readers overhear what he or she says. Unlike in argumentative essay where his thoughts will take him, often his ideas are in changing from the main point. The essayist connects his ideas by an associative process.
In meditative essays the details are given by the means of symbols whereas analogy does in argumentative essay. To recognize the personality of the essayist, we have to see the subject through him and what we perceive of it is always in relations to the essayist.
Some basic qualities of the meditative essay are as follows:
  • The readers are not addressed directly.
  • More concerned with the process of thinking about something.
  • Ideas are in digressions from the main point.
  • Use of symbols.
  • Connection between ideas by an associative process.
  • Involvement of the essayist.
  • No clear-cut argumentation.
  • No direct-persuasion, etc.
