The essay as play: dialogue

Essay is a pure form of literature where ideas and logic leads its readers to the process of persuasion whereas play is form of fiction acted rather than narrated. If essay is written in form of play, including setting, dialogue, characters and plot, we can call it dramatic essay.

As we know in dramatic essay one or more than one character resembles with the essayist. In dramatic essay, plot and setting are also important to be considered. While making critical analysis, characters, plot and setting all speak something about the author's ideas. We should examine the elements of the dramatic essay to discover what they tell us about the author's ideas. Dialogue is important device to convey the author's view in dramatic essay.
For example: 'Our Graves in Gallipoli' by EM Forster is a good example of dramatic essay where two characters- first Grave and second Grave are talking about the war. Their dialogue has presented Forster's view on war and it has also plot and two sorts of setting for persuasive purpose.
