The essay and other forms of literature

Essay is the purest form of literature systematically organized, factually detailed, closely reasoned and plainly written. There is always sense of utility of such products. At the heart of all essays there is persuasion. This persuasion can be expressed in argumentative way.

As we know the essential quality of essay is persuasion, it must be in our knowledge that the essayist can persuade us in different ways associating with different forms of literature. It is not confined to the form of straight forward persuasion. It may be narrative, dramatic or poetic in form. In strict sense of essay, an essayist may be seen addressing us directly like a public speaker. In a narrative essay, the author becomes a narrator, a story teller, who reports directly to us describing or narrating about the persons and events.
A dramatic essay may take one or two possible forms. It may be in the form of a dialogue or it may be in the form of monologue.
In poetic essay, there is presence of meditation which is overheard by the reader. The essayist looks as if he is talking to himself rather than to others. In any forms of the essay, the author tries by all means to persuade us to look at a thing from his perspective.
